The new ones sounded just like the old ones. I prefer the odr-s as it has more control over the sound, particularly the low end which can be a bit thumpy on the odr-1. The odr-s also has a lot more gain range so it can be really flexible. Throw in 3 band eq and lower used prices it's a no brainer for me.
