There are 2 kinds of infection the injury infection, this one you see in an injury, it just make the wound to take longer to heal, in your case if you just keep the wound bandaged it should heal in 24h (infected or not, with slow healing trait or not) just keep your character well fed.

Okay so I assume you are fairly new to the game, even if the wounds healed that caused you get infected with the zombie virus does not mean you are not infected. Putting a bandage on it does stop the active bleeding, but at the cost of making it dirty almost immediately, and taking forever to heal. Generally wounds like that are rare, unless you just through a window with glass or step in glass. You can get deep wounds other ways but those are the main reasons, at least for me.

The wound getting infected is not your concern. You should eat food, being full improves the regen speed of your health. Generally it’s not worth it to take a bandage off, the healing rate of a dirty vs clean bandage is very similar. A wound being infected just causes a small damage over time effect, easily manageable by eating and sleeping.Disinfectant really only needs to be applied once on a wound, that is enough to pretty much kill any possible or future infections. but you can also over a bandage in disinfectant as well before applying it to a wound.
