Every single time I try to use the drill on a rover it follows this pattern. start a nice gently sloping tunel. drill into a cavern, nose dive into the floor, and drill straight down for a few meters before it all registers what’s happening and I get the drill shut off. spend the next 10-15 min trying to get the rover level or out of the hole.

I wanted to make a major production base in the core of a planet for access to a core Gateway node. Gateway travel is so handy, but effectively limited to only things your astroneer can carry. The borehole to the core was to allow fast transport of bigger items out of the core via shuttle.

Leave the rover there and proceed on foot to activate the core. Then use your compass to make your way back to the rover.
