Hi.. We are 3 families - 6 adults and 6 kids around the ages of 10 - 15. Trying to decide Hvar or Bol during the month of August. Currently booked at the Amfora Grand Beach Resort on Hvar (costly) - but wondering if we should consider the Bluesun Hotel Elaphusa on Bol instead. We are there for 5 days (plus 3 in Split and 3 in Dubrovnik ).My wife and I plan to catch ferries from Dubrovnik to Split in May and will hire a car in Split for the northern part of Croatia as I believe a rental car is the best way to get around in the north.. There are complaints about some places being overcrowded in July ( Dubrovnik, for instance, or Plitvice lakes), other complain because of long queues for the ferries to islands, crowds at the airports, hot weather, mosquitos - people complain for all possible reasons.

Zadar is smaller and weather, especially winds and rain, in these parts can be worse than in Split. Traveling to Plitvice from Zagreb is just about 20-30 minutes longer than from Zadar. You can also do a day trip from Zagreb to coast with a car. To Rijeka is approximately 2 hour drive and to Zadar 3 hour drive.
