Imperial Cataphracts are probably the best overall. I believe the Vlandians have slightly better stats but Cataphracts have better equipment and you also get the Buccelarii horse archers whereas Vlandians do not get horse archers.

Mameluke tier has some great skirmishers. Master archers are decent. Palace guards are hard to train but they are versatile. Not the best troop tree but nice and reliable backups.
