As well as Ryze needs the mobility from phase rush in heavy CC teamcomps. Plus Ryze is a mid range mage and first strike relies on you hitting the enemy first, any other longer range champ makes the rune useless. Just use Phase Rush , the movement speed will save your life many times over.

Something like Olaf, Xin Zhao or Gragas are probably the best imo. Others worth mentioning are Camille, Taliyah, Graves and Evelynn. You can play any jungler with Ryze though, he has very reliable lockdown, just not very much damage early. Which is fine because there are plenty of champs just like this. Many adcs are practically useless until 3 items. So we need to treat ryze this way aswell. I've had a ton of success with this build.

With PR, you can both kite your opponent easier and chase people down to secure a kill if your combo doesn't quite kill them. Conquerer keeps you alive longer and Presence of Mind can be super sweet, but overall you're losing damage and probable going to miss out on kills/get caught out easier. NewBelieve.

A lot of damage was lost with the new Seraphs this season and if you go tank you’re just a W spam bot which is not fun.
