OP - Please verify the output of the external preamp is plugged into an AUX input on the amp. If you're plugged into the PHONO input, you'll be getting too much gain which could lead to raised noise levels which could be perceived as HUM, not to mention a multiplied RIAA curve. I wouldn't bother with some impossibly rare JPN disc that will be really hard to find and cost you $75.
