Once sighted in, the advantage of a red dot is a sight easier to place on the target. Most red dot sights use a CR2032 three volt battery with a variable brightness control. I have a red dot on my Mark III Hunter and iron sights on my 22/45. The red dot adds a bit of bulk to the pistol which precludes using a regular holster.

I have a Mark III Hunter and the new 22/45 Mark III with the removable panel grips. I have a Millett red dot on the Hunter, and just use the iron sights with the 22/45 although I did move the optic front sight from the Hunter to the 22/45. Both are fun to shoot, but the 22/45 points a little easier since it has the shorter 4.5 inch barrel.
