It does really decent dmg and is quite useful in PvP, since most people ♥♥♥♥ up their dodge because they expect the longer casting time of Great Combustion. Aside from that there is Firesnake. It pretty common but for a good reason.
Well if you're making pyromancy a focus, sure. But the thing is that it's viable at a much lower stat investment. It's perfectly reasonable to be a melee character that gets the attunement from some form of Southern Ritual Bands.
