Glenfield 30a vs marlin 336.

Earlier today I made a trade for a Glenfield Model 30A, cal. .30-30. It is pre-crossbolt safety, blue steel and a hardwood stock which I believe is probably birch. It is in very nice shape. It has a forearm end cap rather than the rear barrel band. The Glenfield line was intended to be resold at a profit by mass merchandisers - thus the less expensive wood. For the 30A itself, it was the model following the Glenfield 30 - the difference being a full length magazine tube for the 30A. Over a quarter million of this model were made. Production was from 1971 to 1983.

The most significant difference is the stock. A 30A has a birch stock and no Marlin bullseye. The front sight is not on a ramp but dovetailed into the barrel. It has an endcap instead of bands. My stepson was given a Glenfield model 30A by his grandparents. the rear leaf sight is horrible and we had to remove the elevator completely to get it to shoot. What options for sights are available? Looking for something adjustable but would prefer to keep open/aperture sights. Don't really want to scope it. Is the 30a essentially a 336 or 1894?
